On Sunday, I closed my fashion boutique in Guildford a tad early, and jumped on the train to attend a Picardy wine tasting at Lamont’s Wine store in Cottesloe.
We were treated to a fine array of wines – my pick was the Merlimont, a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet. Lovely red fruit aromas, mulberries and black currant – magically smooth on the palate – a truly elegant wine.
The canapés were delicious and beautifully presented. Starting with a crushed green pea mash sprinkled with fine shavings of Parmesan.
Mashed chickpea and feta served on a witlof leaf was light, creamy with a hint of spice. The witlof was crisp and fresh. I felt so healthy and good about myself.
We then were served mashed artichoke in a light pastry case topped by prosciutto – I am not ashamed to confess I stalked John Jens for another one of these.
Pate with caramelized onion on a light and crunchy toasted bread – the pate, sweet onions and garlic all combined for another lovely canapé.
Alf and I last visited Lamont’s about six months ago for our seventh wedding anniversary – we will be back for lunch very soon.
