Retail is pretty tough at the moment – so you probably, really shouldn’t shut a fashion boutique for the day … particularly on a weekend in the tourist precinct of Guildford, Perth WA – basically I only open on the weekends – but that’s exactly what I did on Saturday when my dearly beloved Alf (aka @perthcafeculture) advised me that he’d booked a couple of tickets to the No Mafia five course lunch with Yoko and Andries of Brave New Wine matching their wines with each course. Check out my @winesandbooks instagram page to see review of Ben Sanders “Marshall’s Law” and Brave New Wines “Schadenfreude”.
We enjoyed the five course meal outlined on the menu below – each course paired with a Brave New Wine – Yoko and Andries were very generous with their time talking about their wines, and pouring their wines – thank you!
Back to my meal… starting off with the citrus cured salmon, fennel and pickled cucumber – we were inspired to start growing our own cucumbers and pickling them ourselves. It was duelling forks for a while (sorry about stabbing you Alf – honestly I was really just going for the salmon…) – matched with Brave New Wines Sunshine and Hercules Riesling.
We both agreed that the match of the day (apart from me and my baby) was the Beetroot risotto with Taleggio and sage paired with the Maison Derriere Pinot & Chardonnay – oops sorry again Alf, I accidentally drained your glass …
We love Northbridge – particularly when we can just walk to the Perth Train Station. We have been going to No Mafia since Emma and Dan opened – friendly and attentive service – excellent knowledge of and diversity of wines available – and the chef, kitchen and wait staff – fabulous!
