I love Instagram and I hope it stays around until I’m too doddery to learn the next social media invention. I gave Snapchat a go for a week but found it weird, and haven’t used it since. I have a personal Facebook page mainly for the purpose of having business Facebook pages, but I haven’t been caught up in the “trap” of spending all day on Facebook. I signed up for Twitter, but like Snapchat, it’s not really my scene.
So back to my favourite choice of social media – Instagram – I (this sounds sad, but) have five instagram accounts and they each serve a different purpose, I know of authors who just have the one instagram page and they post everything on them. If I was a successful published author, believe me I’d just have the one instagram page.
My first instagram page was @winesandbooks and I’ve had it for about 18 months now and it has close to 4300 followers. I review a wine and a book most days, my husband @perthcafeculture is also an avid reader and wine consumer, so he very kindly helps me with the reviews. Whenever I put up a food picture or something different to a picture of a wine and a book on this insta page – people are just not really interested.
@lagalerieguildford is my little shop La Galerie which I share with an artist friend @katherinecferguson. This is a business – an income stream and that’s how I market it, so I can’t really put pictures up of my family, or food, wine, books, film projects etc.
I have had a little film production “company” well name really called Paris Productions since 2005 and have made a documentary called the Ageless Warriors about the 1981 Australian Cricket Team – featuring the seven West Australians. So I recently started @parisproductionsperth – I’m not really marketing this page – I just wanted the one page where all my film projects are on the same page – (promise not to say page again in this paragraph).
Having written countless short films and not done anything with them, a couple of months ago I thought I’d put my money where my writing fingers are and am about to film my first short film, “Storm in a Double D Cup”, so of course I had to start an instagram @storminadoubledcup. This has been so much fun and actually been a great prompt to keep me moving on this project. Today is the day I am holding auditions for the parts of “Storm” – very exciting!
If you have been counting, you will see that I have accounted for 4 pages so far, today I started @tracybockwriting – why, you ask. Well, I like to write and I set this site up so I could write and blog and I haven’t really been doing much except about Storm – then posting on Storm’s FB and insta pages. I sat down and really thought about this and the reason is I have nowhere to post topics such as this blog because none of my current instagram pages “fit” this.
@tracybockwriting gives me the vehicle to drive traffic to my blogs on restaurant reviews, events, film projects, small business etc.
Anyone who knows me, would know I quite like to do nothing – well not quite nothing – my favourite things are reading with a glass of wine in my hand; and eating out – wining and dining with my family and friends. None of which are strenuous. For me, instagram is absolutely the easiest social media for me to do. Take a picture, open instagram, type a few words, add some hashtags – done!
Maybe Instagram should hire me to do their marketing… just saying… Seriously, if you don’t use social media and would like a hand starting up, I am doing a little consultancy in this area so feel free to contact me.
