Michael Winterbottom is the kind of director I want to be, however I suspect you need to have actors (who are also writers and comedians) of the calibre of Rob Brydon and Steve Coogan – I hope none of the actors in my upcoming short film are reading this….
We settled back into our seats at the Luna in Leederville and enjoyed this movie about two friends/colleagues who are asked to take their third trip away together. Just watching for the sake of soaking up the magnificent scenery and eyeing the mouthwatering food would be enough for me. Add in the free flowing conversation between the two guys and it was the most enjoyable hour or so I’ve spent in a movie theatre in a long time.
Steve and Rob are naturally funny – they don’t have to try, I found I really needed to concentrate so I didn’t miss any of the jokes – and of course their mimicry was spot on. They didn’t just take on the voices, they took on the facial and physical actions and antics of the celebrities they were taking off – Roger Moore, Marlon Brando and Mick Jagger to name a few. David Bowie was another – I’m still chuckling a day later about the Roger Moore and Mick Jagger take offs.
If you are looking for a film set in beautiful scenery, historic buildings; and delicious food that you see cooked by the chefs in each restaurant – then go and see “The Trip to Spain” – Steve and Rob are a duo not to be missed – distributed by Madman Entertainment the season begins nationally on 3 August 2017.
