‘The Memories that Make Us by @vanessacarnevale – Gracie wakes up in hospital with amnesia- she doesn’t remember herself let alone her fiancé Blake and best friend Scarlett. She refuses to see Blake and sets about finding herself. First step is to leave the home she shared with Blake and then to move to the country to run her inheritance- a flower farm that her mother had lovingly tended and nurtured. Flowers play a part in the story, obviously – but they also play a part in Gracie fleeting flashes of memories- she just has to find out how. Vanessa’s book made me ponder what I would do in Gracie’s situation. Would I be so brave – not sure if brave is the right word- but I think I would have given in to the easier option and turned to Scarlett and Blake for support. The moment Gracie met Flynn, the local vet, was a pivotal point in the book for me – as she feels she doesn’t have to be anyone or anything – she can just be the self that she is.
I have a few pieces around my home that remind me of my parents- on hot summer days this green Art Deco jug was filled with water and ice blocks. Sipping on a Biancavigna Prosecco on this sunny Autumn afternoon.
