Living in Guildford, we are a little spoilt for choice when it comes to “whose turn is it to cook tonight”? Generally it isn’t mine – 23 years hard labour in my first marriage, now happily married to a guy who loves to cook – but who also doesn’t need convincing to eat out.
Kappys is a Guildford institution, been around since the 1980’s – and the younger generation look to be taking over. We were there recently and the “parents” were having a get-together with their friends from many years gone by, while the kids waited on them – lovely to see!
My choice was one of the specials of the night – spaghetti and meat balls – hearty tomato sauce complimented the herb flavoured meat balls, al dente spaghetti – the only problem was I couldn’t possibly eat it all!
We shared a bottle of “The Squid’s Fist” which is a blend of Sangiovese and Shiraz; a lovely dark red in colour, cherries and blackberries aromas, plums with a slightly spicy palate – excellent wine with my meatballs!
