Another book I sat down and read in one go was Meg Mason’s delightful ‘You be Mother’. Living in London, Ali is pregnant to her boyfriend, Australian exchange student Stu. She moves to Sydney when her baby is only a few weeks old – but the welcome she receives from Stu and his mother is lukewarm at best.
Her elegant neighbour widow Phyllida takes Ali and her baby under her wing and the two women become firm friends. Ali receives the attention and love she wanted from her own mother and Phyllida feels needed and loved in return – her own children are caught up in their own lives – but become suspicious of the relationship between Ali and Phyllida. Such a beautiful story that I didn’t want to end. So many fabulous Australian women authors – writing books.
I am celebrating this fact over a over a Bandini Prosecco – pale yellow in colour, fresh green apple aromas, creamy mouthfeel with a persistent bead. Purchased this one from our local Chateau Guildford.
